About Us

John Crosby is a 46 year old woodworker and wood turner. He resides just west of Elgin with his wife of 21 years and his two children, a boy and a girl, 16 and 14 years old. John started woodworking in his early 20's, but always had an interest in working with hand and power tools. When John was only 5 years old, on the occasional Saturday or sometimes during the summer John started going to work with his father, who worked as a floor installer. According to his father, John actually became somewhat helpful when he got to be about 12 or 13. John followed in his fathers footsteps, and also worked many years in the building trades, before following a different calling. John began his career as a firefighter and paramedic in January of 1997 and knew he had found what he had always been looking for. Unfortunately while working on the job as a firefighter/paramedic, John suffered a career ending injury which required several surgeries to repair the damage done to his lower back and to help control the chronic pain. John said about his career "Thirteen years serving the public was a privilege, I miss it everyday, and it simply wasn't long enough."

John spends the majority of his time taking care of his family at home and in his woodshop making the products he offers here on his website. The wood John uses for his projects is obtained locally from arborists that are taking down or trimming trees, or if need be, at a local hardwood lumber supplier. If a customer wants to commission a particular piece in a particular type of wood that he doesn't have in the wood pile that can be arranged, just ask.
